Usage notes

  • The Glorious Revolution (of 1688) had significant immediate impact both in Europe and North America (and so may be mentioned in those historical contexts). England joined the Dutch Republic and others in the Grand Alliance (aka League of Augsburg) against the French in the Nine Years' War (1688–97). This global conflict encompassed the Williamite War in Ireland, the Jacobite risings in Scotland and (what is now called) King William's War in colonial North America.
