ginozo
Old High German
Etymology
Variant of Old High German ginōz, from Proto-Germanic *ganautaz, a noun corresponding to Proto-Germanic *neutaną and *ganeutaną 'to use, enjoy', whence modern German genießen. The original etymological meaning was to enjoy something with someone, shared enjoyment of something. Cognate with Old Norse nautr (“partaker, donor”), Old Norse fǫrunautr (“fellow-traveller, companion”). Cf. also Proto-Germanic *nautą ('benefit, possession, cattle'), a neuter a-stem noun corresponding to the same verb.
