    • 1831, Georges Cuvier, The animal kingdom arranged in conformity with its organization, page 140:
      The Geckotians, is composed of nocturnal lizards, so much resembling each other that they might be left in one genus.
    • 1871, Arthur Morelet, Travels in Central America: Including Accounts of Some Regions Unexplored Since the Conquest, page 278:
      It proved to be nothing more that a lizard of the geckotian family, hideously ugly, but, in common with all of his kind, perfectly harmless.
    • 1890, M. Maurice Maindron, “Dragons, fabled and real”, in The Popular Science Monthly, volume 36:
