Etymology

Coined in the 1990s, originally to refer to people in their thirties (3) who went to university in the 1980s (8) and were born in the 1960s (6), influenced by the microprocessor i386. The first number is sometimes revised according to the current age of the generation (486세대, 586세대, etc.), but more commonly the original formulation is preserved.
