Etymology
From Middle French foutre, from Old French fotre, inherited from Latin futuere, present active infinitive of futuō, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰew- (“to hit”). For reasons unknown, the verb's original meaning ("to have sex") had been put into baiser, effectively endangering that verb's original meaning "to kiss" in France. Compare English footle.
