From fi (“to use”) + orí (“head, soul”) + kò (“to touch”) + orí (“head, soul”), literally “to use one's head to touch another's”. Yoruba myth states that this etymology comes from the fact that before speech was invented, humans communicated by touching their heads together and communicating via their souls.
