Etymology

From Latin Fennia (“Finland”) + Scandia (“Scandinavia”).

2. (geology) the Fennoscandian Shield underlying Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Northern Denmark; Baltic Shield.

Usage notes

Unlike the term ‘Nordic countries’, Fennoscandia does not include Iceland, Greenland, or other geographically disconnected overseas areas.
