From Middle High German entrech, entreich, antrache, from Old High German antrahho, anetrehho, anutrehho (“male duck, drake”), from Proto-Germanic *anadrekô (“duck leader”). Cognate with German dialectal Drache (“male duck, drake”), Low German drake (“male duck, drake”), Middle English drake (“male duck”). More at drake.
