- (analytical chemistry) The process of removing materials that are absorbed with a solvent.
- 1884 May 29, The Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, volume 1, page 324:
- The quicker the alkali salts are removed during elution, the less chance will there be of forming insoluble lime salts, consequently the melassate which offers the greatest surface to the action of the alcohol will be best and quickest washed.
