Etymology 1

From Middle Welsh -eð, from Proto-Brythonic *-eð (whence also Cornish -edh), from Proto-Celtic *-(i)yā (whence also Old Irish -e), from Proto-Indo-European *-i-eh₂. Cognate with Ancient Greek -ίᾱ (-íā) and Latin -ia.
