Etymology
From Middle English dusshen, duschen, perhaps from Old English dwǣsċan (“to put out, extinguish, destroy”) (see adwesch). Cognate with Middle Low German duschen, German dialectal duschen (“to beat, butt”). Compare also West Frisian dúste (“to push, thrust, poke”).
