Etymology 1

From Ottoman Turkish طوقونمق (dokunmak, to touch, be in contact, affect, concern, injure, excite emotion), reflexive form of Proto-Turkic *tokï- (to hit, knock, strike).[1]

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (tokı-, to hit, knock), Karakhanid [script needed] (tokın-, to hit, bump into), Azerbaijani toxunmaq (to touch), Kazakh тоқылдау (toqyldau, to knock), Tuvan токкулаар (tokkulaar, to tap, knock), Uyghur توقۇنماق (toqunmaq, to touch), Uzbek toʻqinmoq (to touch).
