Etymology
From Middle English dogflye, dogge flie, equivalent to dog + fly, chiefly after post-classical Latin cynomyia and its etymon Ancient Greek κυνάμυια (kunámuia) (in Hellenistic Greek κυνόμυια (kunómuia)).[1]
