Etymology
Borrowed from Russian дурак (durak). Often supposed to have been borrowed during the War of the Sixth Coalition from Russian cossacks stationed in the Low Countries, but only attested considerably later. In Russian, the basic meaning is fool, without a connotation of mischief.
