Etymology

From Ancient Greek δίς (dís, twice, doubly) + πρωτο- (prōto-) (combination form of πρῶτος (prôtos, first), superlative of πρό (pró, before)) + ὀδούς (odoús, tooth) or ὀδών (odṓn) (Ionic) — hence “two front teeth.”
