B. Perchè si dice egli digamma?
A. Perchè la sua figura è fatta di due gamme, che sono la terza lettera de’ Greci, che si fa di questa maniera Γ.- - Suetonius writes that emperor Tiberius Claudius added some letters that the pronunciation of Latin lacked. It can be surmised by the inscriptions of that time that one of them, instead of the consonantal V, is this hooked Ⅎ, such that locavit is written LOCAℲIT.
- Why is it called digamma?
- Because it looks like two gammas, which are the third letter of the Greeks, which is written like this: Γ.
