Internationalism, borrowed from Dutch diffractie,[1] from French diffraction, from New Latin diffrāctiō (in which coined by Francesco Maria Grimaldi), from Latin diffrāctus, past participle of Latin diffringo (“to shatter, to break into pieces”).
