di- (intensifying prefix) + eithr (except, beyond), from Proto-Celtic *ektro, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁eǵʰs (compare Latin exter) with the comparative suffix *-teros.[1] Cognate with Irish eachtrán (alien).[2]
