Formally from dick (“thick”) + Bein (“bone, leg”). Probably an alteration by popular etymology of *Diechbein, from obsolete Diech (“thigh”) + Bein. The former from Middle High German diech, from Old High German dioh, from Proto-Germanic *þeuhą.
Noun
Dickbein n (genitive Dickbeines, plural Dickbeine)
- (regional, chiefly specialist, agriculture) the thigh of a farm animal, especially a pig
- (obsolete) thigh (of a person or any creature)
