Etymology
If the original sense was "pack of animals, pups," formed from cú (“dog”). Or otherwise from Proto-Celtic *kounos, from Proto-Indo-European *keh₂wp-o-, which is related to Proto-Slavic *kupъ (“heap”), possibly also Proto-Germanic *haupaz.[1]
