Ultimately from the verb corrigō (to correct). The ending appears to be the diminutive-forming suffix -uncula, which is uncommon except for at the end of diminutives from feminine nouns ending in . However, no Latin noun *corrigiō exists. It could possibly be built on the noun corrigia (thong, strap), which could have the meaning "whip".
