单词 coepio
释义

coepio

Latin

Etymology

From co- + apō (lit. to lay hold of something on different sides, to lay hold of; hence of an action, to begin). The present stem is a back-formation from the perfect stem coepī.

Pronunciation

  • (Classical) IPA(key): /ˈkoe̯.pi.oː/

Verb

coepiō (present infinitive coepere, perfect active coepī, supine coeptum); third conjugation iō-variant

  1. (pre-classical and post-classical) begin, commence, initiate (= incipiō)

Usage notes

In classical times, only the perfect tenses were in use; the present, imperfect and future indicative and the present and imperfect subjunctive, were supplied by incipiō. This is similar to odio
