Sino-Vietnamese word from 至死 (“to death”). Compare also trí tử, the first element derived from 致 (MC ʈˠiɪH) (SV: trí), which was originally an infixed form of 至 (MC t͡ɕiɪH) (SV: chí) at Old Chinese stage.
