Etymology

From Old Galician and Old Portuguese souriço, from Vulgar Latin *saurīcium, of uncertain[1] but possibly Suevic[2] origin; see there for more. Cognate with Portuguese chouriço. Spanish chorizo is likely borrowed from Galician or Portuguese.
